Confidence: A Portrait Series
Sex stores aren’t places most people think they can find confidence. The employees at these stores beg to differ. These are people who are determined to help build customer’s confidence. Shot on medium format.

Leah Roberts is a sex educator. Roberts was a one-on-one sex counselor in New York. "We focus on preventing and less on pleasure," Roberts said about her job in New York. She drove by Pleasure's in Nashville a year ago and decided to ask for a job. Although it’s important to educate on preventing, she is more interested in educating on pleasure.

Wuulf Burney helps people find what they want as a hairstylist and an adult store employee. "It's nice to help people," said Burney. "It's about asking the right questions." He's only worked as Miranda's in Nashville for 3 months but has enjoyed his time.

LaNae Giboyeaux is a sales representative for Pure Romance in Bowling Green, Kentucky. Pure Romance is a company with consultants helping customers have parties in their home to sell Pure Romance’s products. Last year, Giboyeaux bought a van and started a traveling Pure Romance Boutique to accommodate people outside of Kentucky.

The best part for Giboyeaux is meeting new people and helping them find what they want. "I've always been kind of like a sex therapist," she said. After working at GM for 11 years and being laid off, she decided to change careers in August, 5 years ago. Now, her outgoing personality helps people become confidence in their sex lives.

Reneé walked into Jenna's Adult Toy Box in Nashville looking for a gask mask 14 years ago. She came out with a job. She's noticed since working there that the younger generation is more judgmental of people's sexual habits than they used to be. She wonders if the younger generation isn’t as confident with sex.
